Late November, a 4pm start, and a route named “Dadaepo Sunset Picnic” — the timing on this one wasn’t an accident. My friend Hana and I met at Sinpyeong Station with plenty of time to spare before the group’s afternoon departure, watching sunset light slowly creep across the station building as everyone signed in.

Along the Nakdong River waterfront
After a full group briefing outside the station, followed by smaller group meetings, we headed for the Nakdong River waterfront path — one rest area along the way was under construction, so we picked through carefully, but the wind stayed calm and the temperature mild for late November. Shadows stretched long across the path as the afternoon light deepened, Jangnim Port taking on a completely different color under the early sunset glow than it would at any other hour.
Rainbow Bridge and Bunechia’s photo spot
The route crosses toward Rainbow Bridge, a natural pause point for photos as boats came into harbor silhouetted against the coloring sky, before continuing to Bunechia Observatory — a lookout point whose name plays on “Busan” and “Venice,” fittingly lit up with its own decorative lighting that only really shows itself properly in the late-afternoon hours most walkers wouldn’t otherwise see it in. A short climb to the observation deck gave a clear view back over the water before we continued on.

The sunset deepens toward Goni-naru
Past Bunechia, the sky moved fully into proper sunset colors — even the hills toward Gadeokdo Island in the distance picked up a reddish tint, migratory birds calling somewhere nearby as if looking for a place to settle for the night themselves. We reached Goni-naru Rest Area at close to peak color, and the whole group took a long, unhurried break there simply to watch the sky rather than rush through it.
Into the dark at Dadaepo
By the time we set off again, streetlights along the road had already switched on, the sky noticeably darker than when we’d left the rest area. The final stretch through Dadaepo Ecological Park happened almost entirely after dark, everyone moving carefully along the path until the Dadaepo Dream of Dusan Fountain plaza came into view — the walk’s endpoint, and a fitting one for a route built entirely around watching a sunset from start to finish.

A few practical notes
Timing is everything on this route — check sunset time before you go and plan your start accordingly, since the whole appeal is watching the light change over the water. The finish is largely unlit park pathway after dark, so a small flashlight or phone light is worth having for the last stretch. Sinpyeong Station and Dadaepo are both well connected by subway and bus, making a one-way sunset walk easy to plan.
