Songjeong Beach to Haeri-dan-gil: Haenuri-gil Course 2

Busan keeps adding walking trails faster than most visitors can keep track of, and Haenuri-gil — a roughly 50-kilometer network specifically covering Haeundae district’s coast, forest, and downtown areas — is one of the newer ones. My friend Hana and I tried Course 2 not long after it launched, curious what a brand-new trail feels like before the crowds and the well-worn paths that come with an established route.

We met at the old Songjeong Station, a graceful early-1900s building that’s been preserved even after train service moved to a newer station nearby, its wide outdoor waiting hall now more of a public gathering space than an actual platform.

Songjeong’s old road overlook

From the station, the trail climbs briefly to Songjeong Old Road Overlook, a viewpoint looking back over Songjeong Beach — the water a deep, clean blue that morning, high-rises and low hills framing the curve of sand in a way that made for one of the better opening views we’d had on any Busan trail so far. It’s a short detour but worth every step.

Through the forest to Jungdong Station

The trail then turns inland, running through a wooded stretch before reaching Jungdong Station on Busan’s Donghae Line — the section that gives Haenuri-gil its “sea, forest, and city all in one” tagline, since within a single hour you go from ocean overlook to quiet trees to an active train platform.

Haeri-dan-gil’s café street

Past Jungdong, the route enters Haeri-dan-gil, a newer café and boutique district that’s taken clear inspiration from Seoul’s “-dan-gil” neighborhoods — small independent coffee shops, design stores, and a generally younger, more curated feel than the traditional markets we’d walked through on other courses. It made for a natural lunch stop, and honestly a pleasant change of pace from the historic or industrial themes most Gamnaetgil sections lean into.

Finishing near Woo2-dong

The trail wraps up at a small park in front of the Woo2-dong community welfare center — a low-key, residential ending after a walk that had packed in coastline, forest, transit history, and a trendy café district all inside about ten kilometers.

A few practical notes

Haenuri-gil is newer and less internationally known than Gamnaetgil or Haeparang, so trail markers can be sparser in places — a downloaded map or a guided walking group is genuinely useful here. Haeri-dan-gil gets busy on weekends, so a weekday visit means more breathing room at the cafés. Old Songjeong Station and Jungdong Station both sit on Busan’s Donghae Line, making this an easy course to reach without a car.

Walked in mid-October, clear skies, not long after this section of Haenuri-gil officially opened.
